Component 1
My theme was constructed landscapes, My first thought to the theme was looking forward to changing my focus to constructed landscapes since doing Documenting communities for a while, I can see what I can achieve in this area and was thrilled to get stuck in. My work was solely inspired by Gerlado de Barros on how he executes his shadows in black and white form with harsh dark lines and composition. I learned from his work that he manipulates negatives and cut out different shapes from his work to add, I was going to expand this by using the dark room.
TO start off my project I began taking pictures of a mix of nature and urban landscapes whenever I was out to use, I tackled the first threshold concept which is Photography many genres, some old, some borrowed, some new. I did this through taking images of just the general surroundings since they have been there through time and change what they look like in seasons ( nature ) . Taking pictures of the world around you have no genre since you can do that in every genre and change it into a specific one by editing your images or using a camera from a different time line. After I selected the pictures that I want to use for my project and and them negative, transferred them onto acetate and layered the images, I chose the ones with more positive area to layer with the ones on the more negative side so they mix and blend together well. I continued to explore my investigation by expanding my idea by using the projector and shadows. I projected the images that I was using onto a blank wall, placing the acetate images in front of the projector to create a shadow over the image.
I have refined my work and make it better as I went along to ensure it was the best of my ability, changing researching and improving I did this by incorporating the dark room with my work using photographic paper. The habits of mind I have exercised the most is persistence since in the dark room there are many failures and discipline, persevering even when you want to stop.
